About The Diaries Project

All my life I’ve heard stories of my grandfather’s mother — a farm wife, mother of three children, former school teacher and homesteader, excellent cook, loving grandmother…an unassuming and faithful person. On a recent vacation home to Arizona, I borrowed two of her diaries from her oldest daughter, and am using them as impetus to help me write something every day, and also to learn more about this side of my family.

Though she died years before I was born, I have held Memo up as a standard of kindness, honesty and faithfulness for my own life. Even if her entries are short and, at times, quite bland, I hope to glean something from this project that will help me become more like her–or, at least, the best version of myself I can be.
